- The Guys of TF-49 BN Bravo Co
send………
Thanks From Iraq…
- 1-26-06
- Hi Ms. Villano,
- How are you today, lets hope fine with you and the rest of your
family , as for me and my Marines we are doing fine,
moral is high among the Men considering our situation. I
received your letter two days ago, but I have not had the chance to
reply soon enough. I have been going out on missions after missions
trying to get the bad guys. Well enough of that stuff. Anyways, I would
like to thank you for taking your time to send us those kind words,
and it also feels good hearing from someone from Florida, I'm from
Pembroke pines Fl. As for the movies, any comedy or action flicks will
do and for magazines FHM, Maxim or anything sports, one thing to
keep in mind the youngest Marine here nineteen and the oldest is thirty
seven, with that you can’t go wrong. I really appreciate what
you are doing, it really made my day. People like you is what keeps
us going day in day out. You make us feel that we are not forgotten and
its good to know that there are people out there who really cares about
us other than our families. Thank you for your support. SSgt

- Hi Dianne,
- I hope your day as been good so far, as for me and my guys we
are doing OK, it is hard not to be in good spirit with all this support
from back home. I had
a long day of 12 hours vehicle patrol in various Iraqi desert
village's in our area of operation, but after coming back on the 'FOB',
"forward operation base", I went straight to the MWR center to
use the internet cafe to check my email, after reading your
email and viewing pictures of all the people that are supporting
us, I wasn't really tired anymore, I wanted to respond right away to let
you all know that we are humbled by the heart pouring support from you
all. Also those blankets that are on the way will be greatly
appreciated. The pictures you send are posted up on our bulleting board
in the operation center, so everyone have seen them. The other high
commodity items we need are socks and baby wipes for the no shower
days. All the guys send
there thanks to you all, talk to you later. SSgt Jarrett
- 1/30
- These are some of my guys, I will send you some more of pictures soon. I
showed the pictures you send to my Marines, they were shock to see all
the support we were getting from home. I cant say thanks enough. About
the socks, black boot socks not too thick and the white sports
socks, razors and soap are items we always needed, canned goods and any
type of food you have to be heated is not a good idea because the
only microwave we have access too is the one at the chow hall. SSgt Jarrett

- Hi Dianne,
- How was your day? I hope you are having prosperous day so far. Well
as for me today was one of the better days in Iraq so far. I had a good
uninterrupted six hours of sleep today, so right now I'm well rested and
ready for another uneventful night of patrolling in the Iraqi sand box.
Also so today the 3 star general from MARFORCENT, (Marine Central
Command), visit our 'FOB' .So I am well rested with a full stomach
what else in the world can I complain about today?, nothing. Patrolling at night seems to be
getting quiet in our AO, I think its because of the Hajj and the Islamic
New Year at the end of January to the first week in February, less
Iraqis or out at night, means less bad guys out also. Don't be mistaken
me and my guys never let our guards down, we are always waiting for
those infidels or are so called insurgency to show there true
color, so Marines can do what they get pay to do!, that’s wacking
bad guys.
- Tell those supporters that we send our thanks, and that we really
appreciate what they are doing far us. I want to thank you, Dianne and
all for our support from St Pitts, and that we really appreciate
everything you all are doing for us. Bravo Company sends it's love.
Garfield
- Dianne,
- I appreciate the letter and the support and everything that you have not
only done for the Marines here, but all Marines. Your friend the
retired LtCol is indeed right, however as i am sure he will tell you, we
are always prepared to live and survive in environments such as this
one. Sorry to hear that you lost someone special in your life, I
will tell you that even though it is not broadcast back in the states on
the news, we are delighted to be here doing what we do best.
There is not a day that goes by that we ever question why we are here,
we are doing this for the Americans that we lost and will never forget,
as well as our fighting men and women that we have lost in this fight.
It is indeed good to know that good spirited patriotic people such as
yourself and those that are around you support what we are doing. We
are very hungry in our desire to not just defeat but to crush the will
of these extremists, and to send a message to them that we will go
wherever they are. .
- Some people spend a life time trying to make a difference and
don’t. The Marines do not have that problem. (Ronald
Reagan) We are delighted to be here in this fight to defend our
fellow Americans and send a strong message. Thanks for all of your
support, and thanks for being a patriotic American. Semper

- 7/10 Good Evening, Dianne
- I don't know you and you don't know me but that is what makes this so
special. I would like to thank you on behalf of Marine Wives out here
for your support to our troops, in particular to our husbands. My
husband sent me the e-mail you sent them and I am sure it made them feel
very good. They need all the motivation they can get. Life out there is
very hard. I had a package sent to my husband's unit this last week and
everything that you mentioned is on the right track, especially the
Maxim magazines. :)- I usually send my husband a package every week and
I know he shares it with his guys. Let me know if there is anything I
can do from here in California, maybe I can get in touch with other
companies that are willing to donate some cool stuff for our troops.
Thank you again! With much gratitude,
Nelly Motta
- 6/24/06 Hello to everyone,
- The Marines of Charlie Co have enjoyed the abundance of cards, letters
and goodies. We have been busy, busy, busy and no one has had much
personal time or rime to be bored. I did not realize 2 months went by
already. We always look forward to mail call, sometimes it is a days
worth of mail and thank you for keeping the Marines in Mind. We can
always count on something for that one Marine who had a no mail day. I
have been asking for the guys to write back to you all, especially if
they are from your states. Thanks again.

- 7/26 Well Mrs.
Villano, everything here is great. You and your crew have been pivotal
in keeping up our spirits.
- My wife IS a great Marine wife, she keeps me happy even out here, she
sends me whatever I need (which is why I’ve never asked for
anything) and drops me letter quite often. She is holding down the fort
back home and learning to be independent. I hear that you have
communicated with here. She tells me that she is very glad to see that
other people care about us just as much as she does and showers you and
your town with accolades of gratitude.
- Thank you for being so wonderful to us. If I may ask, what made you take
an interest in us? Just wondering because charity and benevolence of
this degree is very uncommon now a days.
- Either way, thank you so very much for all you do for us, it does not go
unnoticed.
- Also, if it is not too much to ask, would you be able to put a name on
one of your packages for a Marine by the name of Jonathan Hsu, he
doesn’t get a lot of mail out here and I have my wife sending him
packages and letters of appreciation and thanks. He is a wonderful kid
and you can see his eyes light up when he gets something. He is my
roommate and I know he will appreciate it.
- Thanks again, and, if there is anything we can do for you, please ask. I
don’t know if 1st Sgt Cooper has sent you pictures but if you
would like some, please let me know. Lcpl Motta C,F

- 8/13 – Dear Dianne, I bet you are wondering how I am typing you a
letter if I am in Iraq. Well, that is an interesting story. I have
staples in my skull and was told to take it easy for a couple of days. I
am not going to bore you with the details so don’t worry about
that. I am Lcpl Gary Ronald Hohn II. I am a radio operator for Apache
Company. I made a promise to myself in bootcamp that I would never
disrespect myself or my Marine Corps by talking badly. My wifey back
home is going to have our baby in a couple of months. Can you believe it
that the due date is Nov. 11 – the birthday of the Marine Corps. I
hear that you can make wishes come true big or small. Well, here is my
wish. There is a mini series out there that I think can bring us all out
here closer together. It is called Band of Brothers. I tried to
get it before l left for Iraq but the PX was sold out. Dianne, if
you could make this wish come true for me, I would really appreciate it
–the Marines with me would Appreciate it. I cant tell Tell
you how many times we get pulled to the rear to take it easy for a day
and we get to see one movie as a group. Every one is thinking the same
thing…. I wish this moment would never end. Then an hour and a
half later it does. Please write me back and share so me news from the
states. Take care and keep doing what you are doing. We need more
Americans like you supporting us. You are my hero. Thanks for your
support – Lcpl Gary Ronald Hohn II

- 9/25 To the fine Americans that supported my Marines –
- Hello again, this time from California.
- Just one last email to sincerely thank you all for the awe inspiring
support you provided to my men and I over the course of the last seven
months. As we made our way back from our austere little company
forward operating base to the United States it became more and more
apparent how much your support meant to us. My Marines rarely had
access the post exchanges and other amenities available to service
members at the lager bases we passed through (some places actually have
Burger Kings!). Although we always had what we needed the steady
supplies of hygiene items, snacks, and other items you provided ensured
we had what we wanted. More importantly, it showed that we were
supported. For you kindness and generosity I can not thank you
enough.
- I am pleased to inform you that my Marines and I arrived back in the
United States on 27 September. Upon our arrival a group of
civilian motorcycle riders greeted us and escorted us back to 29 Palms
where we were reunited with family and friends. Along the way a number
of citizens helf US flags and waved as we passed as well. Needless to
say, it was a very exciting day and although it takes a little getting
use to not being around “my boys” it sure felt good to get
them back to their families.
- Your patriotism and kindness made a difference.

- Dianne,
Thanks for the e-card. I really appreciate it. Here is a picture
of all of us after the ceremony. I did it a little different than most.
However, we had fun doing it. That is what matters the most though. You
and your friends are my heroes because of all that you do for us while
we are here. How are things going for you? I hope that all is well. Tell
everyone thank you for me and Semper Fi. Tim
- 13 Mar
- Things are getting busier, each batch of letters that I receive I pass
out to the Marines so that everyone has a chance to get mail. I do
let them know that they do need to respond so that you know that they we
as a whole are appreciative of your efforts. Some of the Marines have
made some nice pen pals and started some great relationships with them.
- Thank you for the coffee and the mugs! They were great ad everyone that
got one was happy about getting one. The marines and I would like to get
some sugar for the coffee being sent. IF there is a possibility of it
being sent. Also, can we get some magazines and puzzles? Thank you for
your support!! I think that y'all are the heroes because of all of the
support that you give to us. Again, hygiene gear is always welcome.
Again, thank you for your assistance and support. I will update
soon. SSgt

- Good Morning, Ms. Villano,
- My name is SSgt Villanueva Juan J. I am currently serving in
Iraq. We just receive your wonderful letter. It really
lifted our spirits. I would like to take this opportunity to send
a special thanks to everyone that is showing us support. At times
it seems like the support for the troops is decreasing. Then out
of no where great Americans such as yourself and your organization
really show us that you are still behind us. That we are still in
peoples hearts, thoughts and prayers. From the bottom of our
hearts, Thank You! We really appreciate everything you do for us.
Today I will get with our Marines and ask them if there is anything they
might need to make things a little bit better for them while they are
out here. Once again thank you. Feel free to contact me at
any time. Semper

- Hello Dianne,
- I just wanted to take
a moment to let you know everything you are doing for us out here is
fantastic. It is the
highlight of the day sometimes for these Marines. I know that the Marines under my
care have loved and appreciated every package you sent to us. They might not have written to
you but they did enjoy the paper booklet you sent out of all the
contributors. It was also
great to see the smiling faces on all of you. The Marines have worked extremely
hard out here to ensure the freedom for the Iraqi people. You should feel proud
as well for you have made it happen also. Keep the Motivation coming and I
wish you the best.

- Well hello Dianne,
- This is Sergeant McManigal and you kindly sent us a package and some
pictures. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the
package and your efforts. I have five Marines under me and a
couple of them do not get a lot of mail. I wish you could see
their faces when I give them a package to open up. It’s like
Christmas every week for them. I am sorry to hear that you lost a
loved one during the attacks on 9-11 and I just wanted you to know that
what you are doing is surely making us appreciate what we do.
People like you make it worth going through what we do on a daily
basis. I can’t tell you how many times I prayed for god to
give me a normal life but instances like this make worth while.
- I am from Omaha Nebraska and my Marines are all from Utah, North Dakota,
New York (The Sticks), Alabama, and the last one I can’t
remember. We are all apart of an Engineer Battalion and our
mission here is road clearance and construction of observation points
for the Iraqi Army. We have been out here since February and
we have been fortunate to have only lost two Marines. One of which
was a female. Her name was Lcpl Navarro and she was apart of our
security team here. One day when they were out on a mission a
sniper took aim and ended her life. The other was a Gunnery
Sergeant that was apart of out Ordinance Disposal team that was hit with
an IED.
- Well, I just want you to know that we all thank you from the bottom of
our hearts. Take care an I hope to hear from you soon. Feel
free the E-mail me anytime and pass on a message to the guys.

- MWSS Marines place barriers in Baghdadi
- April 12, 2006; Submitted on: 04/12/2006 05:37:39 AM ; Story ID#:
200641253739
By Lance Cpl. Brandon L. Roach, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing
A convoy of logistics
vehicle systems loaded with concrete barriers is unloaded on a street in
Baghdadi, Iraq, April 6. The barriers were strategically placed along
the perimeter of the Baghdadi police station to provide protection and
diversion. The mission was executed by Marine Wing Support Squadron 274,
Marine Wing Support Group 37 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
BAGHDADI, Iraq (April 12, 2006) -- As a 24-vehicle convoy rolls
down the streets, a voice of a Baghdadi police officer can be heard over
the intercom saying in Arabic, "It's a gift from God. The Marines
are here to help us."
The "gift from God" was the engineers of Marine Wing
Support Squadron 274. They came to provide force protection to the
Baghdadi police by setting up concrete barriers around their station.
MWSS-274 functions under the umbrella of Marine Wing Support
Group 37 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
"The reason for the barriers was to provide protection and
diversion," said 2nd Lt. Brandon E. Cooley, heavy equipment
officer-in-charge, MWSS-274. "We also set up an entry control point
for the military housing units."
According to Marines with MWSS-274, engineer equipment operator,
MWSS-274, the Baghdadi police have been one of the biggest threats to
insurgents in Iraq, because they continue to track and kill some of the
most wanted people sought by coalition forces.
"If all we have to do is put up barriers and that makes them
want to support their country more, I will do it all day," said
Cpl. Travis G. Hill, engineer equipment operator, MWSS-274. "The
more comfortable we help them feel, the more they can take over their
own country."
Although the Marines were flocked by the local children, they
kept their focus. Even when a forklift broke down the Marines kept
motivated and got the job done.
"It was very motivating for us being the first Marines to
come out and show our support to the police and people of
Baghdadi," said Derrick. "We tried to stay low key and hurry
to get the mission done."
The Marines went out with one more mission on their mind in
addition to getting the barriers set up for the police.
"We had a supplemental mission of supporting the Marines of
3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment," said Cooley.
The infantry unit had moved into Baghdadi just a few days earlier
to counter insurgent movement in that city. The Marines of 3/3 did not
have the basic administrative supplies for their continuing
operations.
"We brought them supplies and materials that they didn't
have," said Cooley. "It just goes to show you that the Marines
of 274 can do it all."
With aviation support being the highest priority for the Marines
of MWSS-274 they continue to ask for more missions outside the perimeter
of Al Asad.
"As long as we keep up aviation support we can get more
missions that show the Iraqi people our continuing effort to improve
their lives," said Cooley.

- …….. Dear Dianne,
Your packages to any Marine has ended up on a Special Forces
compound in Jalalabad Afghanistan. The Marines have just packed up and
left to go home, and I guess we were the lucky benefactors of your
generosity.
- Thank you so much. We have
used everything you sent either here or helping the local people in the
surrounding villages, so many many lives were touched thanks to you and
the team of folks around you.
We really need nothing here...there are a lot of 'wants', but we
are really in need of nothing to accomplish our missions. I will tell
you that it looks like Christmas around here with a bunch of Special
Forces guys tearing into a box with a grin on their face and a twinkle
in their eye. I would like to see that continue if it is alright with
you... I will attach a picture of me at the girl's orphanage the other
week.
- Our job is a 50/50 mix of tension-filled missions and joy-filled
missions. Kids are kids all around the world, but the little ones here
are really special. Thanks again for the love and support. It is so
appreciated by all of us.
