Common Drugs Account For Many
Side Effects -
March 23, 2005 -- When it comes to side effects from
prescription drugs, commonly prescribed medications may prompt more
complaints from older patients than potentially riskier ones. Most side
effects reported by Medicare patients in a new study were linked to
commonly prescribed medications. Those include drugs for heart problems,
inflammation, and cholesterol -Web MD

Heavy Around The Middle ?
If
your belt is getting too tight, take it as a warning sign. Having a large
waistline can put you at risk for chronic disease, even though your weight
is otherwise in proportion to your height. In fact, you can be lean
but metabolically obese if you carry your weight around the midriff, says
Osama Hamdy, M.D., of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

Over The Counter
drugs May Cause Strokes -
The
active ingredients in some of the most commonly used over-the-counter
cough, cold, and allergy remedies are once again being linked to an
increase in stroke risk, even in people who take the medications as
directed. Researchers in Mexico evaluated 2,500 patients who had strokes
and concluded that in 22 cases their strokes were caused by taking
over-the-counter (OTC) drugs containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, or
phenylpropanolamine (PPA).

Arthritis -
For
millions of people with knee arthritis, performing routine tasks such as
climbing stairs, bending over, or even walking can be painful, prompting
many sufferers to avoid them altogether in favor of a more sedentary
lifestyle. But a new study confirms what many had suspected:
If you don't use your muscles, your arthritis will
get worse.

Heart
Failure Risk Double in Obese -Very obese people have been shown to
face a much higher risk for heart failure than people of normal
weight. With more and more Americans considered overweight or obese,
the authors of a recent study in The New England Journal of
Medicine wanted to determine if being overweight to a lesser
degree also puts a person at a greater risk for heart failure - Brought
