- Make
sure that your child knows that you love them unconditionally
-
Never tell your child that they are fat
-
Strict diets are NOT for children. Neither is depriving Them of food if they
are hungry
-
Don't induct your kids to the "clean plate club" if they are not hungry do NOT
make them eat until the plate is empty
-
Serve your children balanced meals with "single" servings of food so that they
don't fall prey to "portion distortion"
- Teach them
how to read food labels and how to determine "single" servings of their
favorite foods
- Take your
kids shopping and emphasize healthy food choices instead of high calorie,
nutrient depleted desserts and snacks
- Offer healthier snacks like
light popcorn or pretzels instead of chips
- Serve fruit with whipped cream
or frozen yogurt instead of cake cookies or ice cream for dessert
- Limit trips to fast food
restaurants - If you must go, stress "happy meals" and healthier choices
- Discourage your children from eating
in front of the TV or computer
- Make regular exercise a regular
part of your family's life
- Regularly involve your children
in activities like swimming, or rec league sports and activities
- Limit tv watching and time
spent sitting at the computer
- Be a healthy role model for your
children by exercising regularly, maintaining an active lifestyle and
maintaining a balanced, healthy food plan
