Why are Antioxidants good for you?Damage caused by free radicals often lead to signs of aging. Antioxidants are very good for you because they can slow or even stop the damage done by free radicals. Free radicals are incomplete, highly unstable, reactive compounds or molecules that our bodies naturally produce during the process of living. Free radicals can interfere with a cell’s ability to take in nutrients and expel wastes. Free radicals also play a vital role in cross-linking age formation in connective and other tissue. The formation of wrinkles is probably the most visible sign of cross-linking damage. The destructive “rage” of free radicals can be devastating to the whole body, weakening bodily functions and leading to a weakened state, resulting in illness, premature aging and conditions known as related cardiovascular disease, degenerative eye disease, cancer, dementia, diabetes, and inflammatory joint tissue. Antioxidants can help slow free radical damage and therefore the aging process. Your body naturally produces some antioxidants. Fighting free radicals must take a two step attack: 1. Improving your diet by eating plenty of fresh, enzyme-rich raw foods, including fruits and vegetables and 2. Taking antioxidant supplements. A number of vitamins serve as antioxidants, such as: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q-10.You can fight aging and other conditions caused by free radicals by increasing your intake of antioxidants from foods and supplements.Health Product Business, May 2001
