October 8, 2004- Due to recent findings on the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids for heart health, scientists and food corporations are busy trying to find ways to include the super nutrient into just about every food including juice, yogurt, salad dressing, margarine, meat, milk, and bread.
Critics say the rise in popularity is just a phase, but most experts disagree. There have been numerous successful studies conducted on the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids and they all show signs of benefits ranging from heart health to psychiatric symptoms.
Here are some results of popular studies:
Omega-3 fatty acids, also called fish oils, are long chains of carbons that are polyunsaturated, meaning they contain several double bonds. They’re called omega-3s because the first double bond in the string is positioned three places from the chains end. When three of the fatty acids are linked to a chemical called a glycerol, they make an oil.
